Waiting for the C train last night, I couldn’t help but notice the gummy bear stuck to the MTA map. I thought this was hilarious, not too sure why. While I was still giggling I walked over to the platform and saw another one stuck to the security monitor, about 9 feet high! I’m sure everyone in the station thought I was crazy, laughing and taking pictures of maps and tv screens at midnight.

There’s an old man that sits at the uptown A, C, B, D platform at Columbus Circle, with a portable cd player, and he has the most AMAZING voice! He was singing some blues last night, and he could amplify his voice throughout the entire station without a mic. He sounded great. If you’re ever in the area, stop for a listen.

Last night I went over to Terminal 5 to see the second of two performances by Bloc Party. All in all it was a pretty impressive show. They only had one opening band, Longwave from Brooklyn, and Bloc Party played for about an hour and a half. The place was sold out so needless to say it was packed. I can really tell I’m getting old though because after standing for 45 minutes I was ready to sit down. I miss my younger days when I would be front and center in the mosh pit at a Pantera concert, screaming until my voice was gone.

Oh & as a sidenote, they don’t permit Sharpie markers inside the venue, so leave them at home. I had about five markers in my purse (I had just bought a brand new pack!) and one of the security guards took them all away from me. After the show I hunted her down though and asked for them back, which she kindly agreed.

For some reason this reminds me of the scene in Airplane! the movie when the brothers were talking jive and the elderly white woman interprets. I wonder if the flight attendant here was inspired by the movie.

Ron Winter’s drum website urges even the dumbest of drummers to get their type on and blast out a track.  Frustrated secretaries who can bang out 85 words a minute might just be ready to show down Asian computer nerds and their nimble fingers.  Ipod battles and Guitar Hero now seem so clunky in comparison.

So elegant in it’s simplicity and use of stop motion animation in combination with some beautiful lyrics.

Just because the current economic climate is edging towards an Ice Age doesn’t mean you can’t get your groove on.   Using financial data, and various other statistics, this guy used Microsoft’s Songsmith to create some jazzy, infomercial worthy tracks that will help forget the fact that you are getting poorer and your retirement plan just got set back a decade or so.  Who needs to retire at 55 when you can start your toe tapping to these future #1 hits.

So I saw this the other night on Dav and I thought it was one of the best live performances I’ve seen in a long time. I love the 3 drummers!!
